In short

Betterest keeps what you enter on your phone. The only thing it sends is anonymous usage data, described below, without your name and without anything you wrote. You can turn that off in Settings.

What stays on your phone

Your name, your activities (including the ones you add), your times and workdays, your evenings, lunch breaks and morning scores.
They are stored in Betterest’s own storage on your iPhone, and they are part of your iPhone backup if you make one, which Apple encrypts. Deleting Betterest deletes them.
Betterest has no account and no server of its own.

Apple Health

If you allow it, Betterest reads your sleep and heart rate variability to show them next to your evenings. It only reads and never writes. The numbers stay on your phone: they are never sent anywhere, not with usage data and not to anyone else, and never used for advertising.

Screen Time

If you set up the shield, you choose your work apps in Apple’s own picker. Apple gives Betterest an anonymous token for them, not their names, and Betterest cannot see what you do in them. None of this leaves your phone.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled on your phone. No push server is involved.

Usage data

Betterest sends anonymous usage data, so it can see whether it helps and get better. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Usage data; from then on nothing is sent.

What is sent: that the app was opened, and events such as closing the day, the decision for an evening or a lunch break, the morning’s score from 1 to 5, how drained you were, how many times work apps were opened, and which of Betterest’s own activities it was about. Also what any app sends along: the app version, iOS version, device model and screen size, language, time zone, and whether the phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
What is never sent: your name, the text of activities you added, anything from Apple Health, which work apps you chose, or anything you type.
Who processes it: PostHog, Inc. (USA), on servers in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany), on Betterest’s behalf under a data processing agreement with standard contractual clauses.
Not linked to you: events carry a random ID made on your phone. There is no account, no profile of you, no advertising and no tracking across apps. Your IP address reaches PostHog, as it does with any connection. Betterest’s project is set not to store it.
Why: to see whether Betterest helps, and where it gets in the way. That is Betterest’s legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection). You can object at any time by turning usage data off in Settings.
How long: deleted after at most 12 months.

Your data, your rights

Export: Settings → Export your history gives you your evenings and lunch breaks as a spreadsheet.
Delete: deleting the app deletes everything on your phone. Turning off usage data stops anything more from being sent.
You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, and to object to usage data. Usage data is not linked to you, so it can only be found by its random ID, which Settings shows while sharing is on. Write to contact@aeranova.ch.
You can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU, to your data protection authority.

This website

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics. It is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA), which processes your IP address to deliver the pages.

Changes

If this policy changes, the app shows the new version with its date.
